Timmy Bryon began taking drum lessons from the age of 10 with infamous local teacher Ernie Mallet, played the drums and percussion for the Le Rocquier school band and the Jersey Youth Wind Band and Orchestra from the age of thirteen. Was then taught by Jazz and Big Band Drummer Wally Thompson for three years.
By the age of 17 he was playing summer season shows in the Merton Hotel, also worked playing shows and Musicals at the Jersey Opera House and Fort Regent – this included the touring show of Joseph and the Technicolor Dream coat.
At nineteen Tim moved to London and studied and took a NVQ course at Musicians Institute London, Where he was taught by some of the UK’s best drummers. Whilst in London he formed original rock band Ninkasi and gained experience of recording and touring around the UK and Europe playing alongside bands like Maroon 5, Coldplay and Feeder. At the same time was playing with Swing Band Snake Hip Jake who were headlining dance weekends around the UK.
Valuable experience was gained working for a function band agency, playing some grand venues all over the London and the UK e.g. Kew Gardens, The River Thames. Since returning to Jersey in 2006 Tim has taught at many Island schools including St. Martin, St. John, First Tower, Le Rocquier and Beaulieu and currently teaches at St. George’s Preparatory School.
He teaches beginners to advanced and will show technique and the basics of every style of drumming. Also notation and the reading of drum music. Over the past 15 years he has taught Rockschool (RSL ) drum grades with excellent results for his students.
Tim has been playing in the local music scene for many years with past residencies at places like The Grand Hotel ( with the Grand Band playing jazz standards and then with The Dice Men ). Other residencies have included the Radisson Blu Hotel with the Brian White Jazz Quartet and again with The Dice Men, with rock covers band Suzy’s Field at Chambers and The John Kimble Experience. Tim was also part of the original line up for The Dirty Aces and Kevin Pallot and The Pinnacles and Juke. You can currently see him playing in function band Lauren Ivy and The Engine.
