Meet our student Feature Sam Lawrence Aged 15, Year 10 at Victoria College

1. How long have you been learning guitar with Jenca?

I have been at Jenca for about 4 years now and it’s been really good! I have enjoyed every year from starting at grade 3 and now on my grade 5. Even in lockdown I still could do some of my lessons with my teacher online.

2. How have you found the teaching for your lessons at Jenca?

I have found the teaching to be perfect, not too fast and not too slow. The guitar teachers here are outstanding players – they can do literally anything!

3. What are you currently learning?

I am currently learning my grade 5 pieces for my guitar exam. I’m learning “Surfing with the Alien”- Joe Satriani, “Crying Machine”- Steve Vai, and “Sad But True” – Metallica

4. Who is your favourite band or artist?

My favorite band is Pantera who are a heavy metal band from the 90’s. My favorite song by them has to be “Cemetery Gates” – the pinch harmonics in the main riff are AMAZING!!!

5. What song are you enjoying listening to at the moment?

Right now I am listening to pieces by Trivium, Megadeth, Mick Gordon, Slayer and Lamb Of God. I am really enjoying Dragon Force with their interesting chord progressions and their solos.
